Moritz' CV in three acts (director’s cut)

First Act

1985: Little Moritz sees the light of day in West Berlin. A few months later, his parents move to Düsseldorf, where his "heroic journey" begins. When he is about 8 years old, he is particularly fascinated by the VHS cassettes with his parents' film treasures. The love of film begins...

1st turning point, 1999: Moritz loses his mother at the age of 14, the world stops. After several attempts to cope with the loss, it slowly starts turning again. To let go of the past and make the most of the present, his journey leads him to the Black Forest, to the boarding school "Birklehof".

Second Act

2000 – 2005: Moritz learns about boarding school stereotypes first hand and takes the opportunity to take part of an exchange program down under, where he sits with kangaroos around the campfire, lives in three different host families, but never meets an Aborigine. Back at boarding school, there are more challenges waiting for him. But he overcomes all antagonisms and achieves his goal: A-Levels at top grades and with it the general qualification for university entrance.

End of 2005 – middle of 2006: Moritz moves to the "metropolis" Krefeld - you must have heard of it before. There he is doing community service in the retirement home "Am Tiergarten". The final fates of patients are getting to him and touching him on a personal level, that he starts writing down his experiences in a series of short stories and essays. Moritz realises he wants to combine his two great passions: movies and writing. A few months later, the central turning point follows: he is accepted to the course "Screenplay" at film school in Cologne.

2006 – 2009: Moritz moves to the "carnival stronghold" Cologne and becomes a student at the "Internationale Filmschule Köln". In the end, he has not only developed screenplays for short movies and series concepts, but has also his first 90-minute screenplay. Some cathartic moments later, the climax has been reached: Moritz achieves the "Bachelor of Arts" in the department "Screenplay".

Flashback: The previous year Moritz works in a "Writer's Room" within the filmproduction company "Radical Comedy! GmbH" and is involved in developing a treatment for a 90-minute comedy. After many tears of joy and frustration, the point remains that Moritz works best in a team, where he can give feedback to others for project ideas and may also add his own two cents.

Third Act

2010: the second turning point: Moritz receives a scholarship – this time “the Prussian” has to go to Munich. There he takes part in the "Screenwriter’s Workshop Bavaria" at "Bavaria Film GmbH" for a year under the direction of film producer Uschi Reich. In the end he walks away with some grand exposés and treatments.

End of 2010 – beginning of 2012: Since Moritz' creative mind has not been challenged for quite some time, therefore he quickly dives into the world of a daily series and becomes a script editor trainee at the Europe-wide successful ARD-telenovela "Sturm der Liebe" (Tempest of Love).

From mid 2012: Moritz takes the chance to move from a volunteer to a permanent position, working from now on as an outline and script editor on "Sturm der Liebe", where he is still part of the team to this day.

But since Moritz’ creativity does not stop at screenwriting, he also creates mesmerising narratives through a visual channel that is photography. With his pictures he wants to turn the everyday to something unique and special. He prefers to photograph nature and architecture.

Further turning points and highlights are to be expected.
